Riddle: What can travel around the world while staying in the corner?

Welcome back! I hope you all had a fantastic weekend soaking up these last summer days. We have an exciting week ahead! After independent reading, we will be finishing up our classroom procedures and guideline slides and we will be setting up our Interactive Student Notebooks. 

Schedule:

4. Interactive Student Notebook Set-Up

Homework: 30 minutes of reading, and finish your notebooks if you do not finish in class. Go to this landing page for directions laweissman.blogspot.com ( May be a good idea to bookmark now!)

ISN ( Interactive Student Notebook) Set-Up Directions:
- Decorate the cover with school appropriate pictures, magazine clippings, words, and/or stickers. 
-Leave a spot to write your name (using a sharpie.)
- Number the pages in the bottom outside corner. The odd numbers will be on the right and the even numbers will be on the left. There are 200 pages.
- Cut out, color, and glue the table of contents labels on the first four pages.    
     -Writer's Notebook Label- Page 1
     - Classroom Notes Label- Page 2 
     -Vocabulary- Page 3 
     -Genius Hour- Page 4
- Cut out, color, and glue the tabs onto the sides of pages.

Happy Friday! It was so great to get to know all of you yesterday, I can already tell we are going to have a fantastic year! Keep thinking about what builds a classroom community, and why it is important to our learning. If you have an idea of what classroom community means to you, write it on the wall! As you can see, you have a few objects of mine on each desk. Please do not touch them, we will get to them later on!

Welcome to Sixth Grade Language Arts! I am so excited to have you in my classroom, we are going to have a wonderful year! Today, we are going to focus on building our classroom community. I want to learn more about you! When you come into class I would like you to create a name tag that shows who you are. At your desk is a piece of paper, and there are markers available for you to use. You will then share with the class WHY you chose to decorate your tag the way you did! Think: What defines you?? Also, we will learn a little about our classroom guidelines, and some of the great things coming up this year! 


Today's Schedule:

Warm Up: Name Tags (15 minutes)

Mini Lesson: Classroom Procedures,"Facebook Page",  Introduction to ISN Notebook (15 minutes)

Brain Break: Switching Sides (5 minutes) 

Work Time: Work on "Facebook Page" 

Homework: At least 30 minutes of reading, ISN cover to be completed by MONDAY!!
